SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON SHOULDER COMPLEX

In this one-day course, we delve into honing your expertise in applying DNS principles in practice. The objective of this practical session is to enhance DNS practitioners' comprehension of the integrated nature of global movement patterns, with a particular focus on the integration of trunk stabilization and upper extremity support function. Emphasis will be placed on the ongoing facilitation and cueing of respiration/IAP as treatment advances to higher-level developmental positions and more dynamic multiplanar movements. The key to transformative results lies in fully understanding DNS principles and the ability to identify and address subtle impairments. This session will strongly prioritize meeting practitioners at their current level, providing ample time for questions and hands-on feedback to enhance their outcomes when applying DNS principles in their practice.

Course Highlights/Objectives:

Review Fundamental Concepts:

Quick review of proper breathing, intra-abdominal pressure, trunk stabilization.

Developmental Positions Competency:

Skillfully utilize developmental positions, incorporating modifications for both regression and progression based on observed recruitment patterns to facilitate improved results.

Understand the Impact:

Explore how impaired upper extremity motor patterns and intra-abdominal pressure contribute to issues in the shoulders, neck, thoracic spine, and low back, along with their role in causing performance plateaus.

Compensatory Patterns and Strategies:

Identify common compensatory patterns associated with insufficient intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) and upper extremity (UE) muscle recruitment. Gain the skills to confidently address and enhance these patterns.

Advancing Further:

Explore the effectiveness of training scapula over humerus and UE support function with rehab and performance programs, recognize the impact proper trunk stabilization and IAP has on quality of scapular stabilization and UE movement patterns.

Participant feedback:

"The course was full of functional movements applicable to my practice. I could actually see in real-time the difference good IAP made on the lower extremities in the demonstrated positions. THE RESULTS ARE AMAZING! My biggest takeaway from this course was how important it is to build support through the LEs with good IAP, but I couldn’t have learned it without Erin’s teaching, keen eye, and subtle cueing. She is excellent at what she does and I learned so much in just a one day course. Highly recommend this course for anyone looking to further hone their eyes and touch and to make a more effective impact on their patients!" ~ E. Takei, Physical Therapist
